MAY 2005 MOVIE VIEWING #724- #728

28 Saturday
Shaun of the Dead ( Edgar Wright 2004 99 mins) 2/ 5
[DVD] 1st viewing. Film #728
It had it's moments. Interesting idea, a spoof on all those zombie films throughout the years. Some very intelligent scripting and editing. And, it must be said, the death of the mother was quite moving considering the context of the film. While it was nothing great, it was a simple brainless film which passed the time.

21 Saturday
Star Wars : Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith ( George Lucas 2005 140 mins) 2/ 5
[Rivoli Cinema 1 1.15pm] 1st viewing. Film #727

I'll start by saying I am not a Star wars fan. However when the Star Wars title came up, and the music, I had the biggest smile on my face. Something wonderful about experiencing a movie like this in a packed cinema. The film itself wasn't too bad. There were part of the dialogue that were poor, but I felt the film really got going upon Skywalker's transformation with the Supreme Chancellor. It was fun, the effects were brilliant, and although you knew how it ended, it was still fascinating to watch.

21 Saturday
Don't Look Now
( Nicholas Roeg 1973 110 mins) 3/ 5
[Channel 9] 1st viewing. Film #726
Interesting thrilling about Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie experiencing premonitions involving their daughter's death whilst in Venice.
If you only see this film for one reason, it will be for the structure of the story and the way that this structure is edited into the film.
Some extremely fascinating moments and one very revealing sex scene makes this film one that is hard to shake from your memory.

14 Saturday
Fear X ( Nicholas Winding Refn 2003 91 mins) 2/ 5
[DVD] 1st viewing. Film #725

A film, in many ways similar to One Hour Photo. John Turturro plays a security guard who tries to track down the murder of his wife in the shopping centre. Whilst the premise is interesting the film just loses it's way and becomes far too complicated and uninspiring.

8 Sunday
Kingdom of Heaven
( Ridley Scott 2005 159 mins) 1/ 5
[Highpoint Cinema 7 12.45pm] 1st viewing. Film #724
Didn't think much of this film- I thought the previews looks quite good. I had no idea was what going on storywise- the action sequence was so intense it was difficult to actually comprehend what was occurring. Whilst there were some nice Ridley Scott-esque shots, the film was rather dull and uninteresting. Didn't care much for Orlando Bloom's character.
